Daniel Morel meets with a group of villagers from Ban Lad Hane.

Adage.com, August 23, 2010 — For most a vacation is an opportunity to step away from the world and focus on yourself.  For Daniel Morel, Wunderman Chairman and CEO, it’s an opportunity to give something back.  Journeying to Laos, Daniel, along with Geoff Collins (former Wunderman Bangkok office head), traveled down the fabled Mekong River to bring hope and opportunity to a small village.  Daniel talks about this unique trip, and what it means to him, in Advertising Age’s Good Works online section.  Read: Pursuing a Passion: Global Citizenship.

Stephane Faggianelli Expands Role to Head Wunderman Australia

August 3, 2010 by wunderman

Stephane Faggianelli

New York and Sydney, August 3, 2010Daniel Morel, Wunderman chairman and CEO announced today that its two offices in Australia (Sydney and Melbourne) will report directly to Wunderman Asia region president, Stephane Faggianelli. Previously, Wunderman’s operations in Australia were under the aegis of Young & Rubicam Brands Australia.

“This move is motivated by our three major clients Nokia, Microsoft, and Ford who demand strict globally aligned strategies and represent the majority of our business in Australia”, comments Morel. “Australia’s integration into our Asia-Pacific organization is now completed.”

The move increases Faggianelli’s role in the region: adding the two Australian offices expands his portfolio to 27 offices in 13 countries.

Faggianelli will work closely alongside Wunderman’s global practice leads, Kass Sells (Microsoft), Christoph Stadeler (Ford/Jaguar Land Rover) and Martin Conneen (Nokia), to begin ramping up the management structure based on client requirements.  He will also work in collaboration with Russel Howcroft, Australia and New Zealand CEO, Y&R Brands, on growing local business.

“Along with attracting world-class talent from outside the company, one of my top priorities is growing Wunderman’s existing leadership team,” said Faggianelli. “Our management group with Jo Lloyd and Chris Jeffares will play a critical role in leading Wunderman into the future, with the alignment delivering more investment, a renewed emphasis on acquisition opportunities and an even greater digital focus”.

Wunderman Remembers Michael Kilby

July 20, 2010 by wunderman

Former Managing Director of Wunderman UK

Michael Kilby, the former managing director of Wunderman UK, is fondly remembered by Wunderman staff and friends alike after passing away after a long bout with cancer.

“Kilby,” as he was known, was an active proponent of databased marketing in the U.S., Canada and the United Kingdom. It was in the role of North America vice president of Columbia House, the direct marketing music division of Columbia Records, that he first became known to Lester Wunderman. In 1981, Wunderman personally selected him to run the agency’s London office, which by then had moved into its present location in Camden Town’s Greater London House.

“I deeply regret the news of the passing of Michael Kilby. He was an employee of talent and a man of fine character. He was a great associate: fun to be with, good with clients and an asset to all in the agency,” said Lester Wunderman, founder and chairman emeritus of Wunderman.

During Kilby’s tenure, which ran until 1992, Wunderman UK grew from a team of less than 20 in 1981 to a thriving agency of over 120 people, with clients such as Ford, Rank Xerox, General Foods, Avis, and Weight Watchers. Under his direction, Wunderman developed into a cradle for young direct marketing talent and one of the best direct marketing academies in the UK.

Michael Kilby’s passing was acknowledged by many who had worked alongside him. His contributions to Wunderman were both numerous and profound.

Wunderman and New Yorkers Volunteer Ask: What Are You Waiting For?

July 15, 2010 by wunderman

We are proud New Yorkers-- David Sable

NEW YORK, July 5, 2010 – That’s the question thousands of people passing through New York’s Times Square will be asked 18 times a day. A newly created 15-second New Yorkers Volunteer digital spot on the CBS Neutron display on 42nd Street asks people to make “a real difference” by volunteering to support their community. The pro bono spot was created by advertising agency Wunderman’s New York office and will run on the CBS screen until October 2010.

The digital advertisement addresses people directly, asking them to “volunteer and make a change” in their community. The goal is to reach out to New Yorkers of all ages and all walks of life and engage them in service that has proven to be a real solution to address unmet local needs

"We'd love the help. You'll love the experience."

New Yorkers Volunteer is a new State office that in 2008 Governor David A. Paterson charged with spearheading service and civic engagement initiatives. The office provides administrative support to the State Commission on National and Community Service, manages national and community service programming, and matches New Yorkers with local opportunities to increase the level of volunteering statewide. More information is available on www.newyorkersvolunteer.ny.gov.

“Every New York State resident has a talent and during these difficult economic times, those talents can be valuable resources to local community organizations,” said Susan Stern, Chair of the State Commission on National and Community Service. The number one reason why people don’t volunteer is because they’re not asked – this message give us the opportunity to ask.”

This is the most recent installment in the relationship between Wunderman and New Yorkers Volunteer. In the fall of 2008, Wunderman created the organization’s original logo. The current spot’s design incorporates the organization’s main messaging and leverages the current website look and logo.

“As New Yorkers Volunteer was given the opportunity to run a spot on the CBS screen, their Executive Director, Mark Walter, reached out to us and again asked for our creative support,” says David Sable, vice chairman and COO of Wunderman. “The pleasure was all ours—we are proud New Yorkers—and proud to help out.”
